The Bottle Lights

Buffalo North Entrance North Side Light

Buffalo South Entrance North Side Light

Both of Buffalo’s unique “Bottle Lights” were installed in 1903 on the breakwater system to mark the northern ends of the north and south harbor entrances. The Buffalo North Entrance North Side Light, now on Lighthouse Point, stood across the North Entrance from the 1833 lighthouse and the Buffalo South Entrance North Side Light stood across from the South Buffalo Lighthouse.

The Buffalo Lighthouse Association sent the decommissioned south light to the Dunkirk lighthouse museum in 1987 and restored the north bottle light now displayed near the 1833 lighthouse.
