Visits and Tours

Lighthouse Tours

The iconic 1833 Buffalo Lighthouse, the historic tower that stood at the nationally important junction of the Erie Canal and the Great Lakes, welcomes visitors and tour groups seasonally from late May to early October.

  • Open Hours: Schedules for the site depend on volunteer staffing, and are updated on the Buffalo Lighthouse page on Facebook. Generally, in season the site is open on Saturdays and Sundays. There is a small fee to support the site.

  • Tower Climbs: We try to open the tower at least one day per weekend. For safety reasons, four volunteers are needed at key stations on the stairs and ladders. Proper footwear is needed.

  • Tour Groups: Please email buffalolightshines@gmail.com to inquire and schedule.

  • South Buffalo Lighthouse: Boat tours to the South Buffalo Light Station will be added as its ongoing restoration mitigates safety issues.
